ACTE Announces Nevada Retired Assistant Director as National Award Finalist
ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Melissa Scott, Retired Assistant Director at the Nevada Department of Education, as the 2025 ACTE Region V Lifetime Achievement and Hall of Fame Award recipient. This award recognizes the finest career and technical education (CTE) educators at the middle/secondary school level who have demonstrated innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students and dedication to the improvement of CTE in their institutions and communities.
Melissa has over 25 years of experience in career and technical education and workforce development. She retired from the Nevada Department of Education, as Assistant Director in the Office of Career Readiness, Adult Learning and Education Options where she was responsible for state and Perkins grants management, as well as business/marketing, information and media technologies, and work-based learning program areas. She also helped develop Nevada’s K12 computer science initiative.
Now, through her consulting company Career Tech Strategies, LLC, she provides support to career and technical student organizations and CTE education organizations and agencies. She is an active member of ACTE, Nevada ACTE, and National Association of Supervisors of Business Education (NASBE). Professional memberships include National Business Education Association (NBEA), DECA and FBLA.
Melissa is a graduate of the University of Texas and Louisiana Tech University. Her teaching experience ranges from Pre-K to postsecondary.
Scott is one of five finalists for the 2025 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Gala, an award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on December 4, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. The Awards Gala is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals, Goodheart-Willcox, The Army, and Stratasys.
