In 2007, Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA) and Rep. Phil English (R-PA) launched the Congressional Career and Technical Education Caucus in the House of Representatives. The caucus will serve as a promotion vehicle for legislation, ideas and information related to career and technical education.
The mission statement of the caucus is:
“The Career and Technical Education Caucus is a bi-partisan group of Members of Congress created to enhance awareness in Congress of the importance of career and technical education in preparing a well-educated and skilled workforce in America.”

In hopes of recruiting new members, the Congressional Career and Technical Education Caucus is circulating a “dear colleague” letter asking representatives to join the caucus to show their support for CTE.
The caucus was created in 2007, and is led by Co-Chairs Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA) and Rep. Steven LaTourette (R-OH). Currently, the caucus has 59 members. If your representative is not a member of the caucus, please contact his or her office and share the recruitment letter to encourage involvement.
Unfortunately, at the end of 2010, Congressman Baird will be retiring from Congress and relinquishing his role as co-chair. ACTE is currently working with the Caucus to find a new leader. If your representative is a strong champion for CTE programs, and you think would be interested in leading the caucus, please contact ACTE Advocacy Manager Jamie Baxter.
